Ferrari Elettrica: The SUV That Could Redefine Performance Utility

Ferrari Elettric

Ferrari’s electrification strategy is moving faster than many anticipated. Following the upcoming Elettrica, the brand has now confirmed its second fully electric model – an SUV set to debut in 2027.

Unlike the Purosangue, which introduced Ferrari to the crossover category while keeping a V12 under the hood, this new model will be fully electric. It represents Ferrari’s next major step toward balancing innovation with tradition, and perhaps its most delicate challenge yet: how to build an SUV that embodies the emotional depth of a supercar.

The SUV will use the same quad-motor platform as the Elettrica, with one electric motor per wheel for independent torque vectoring. The setup allows for unmatched agility and control, creating driving dynamics closer to a hypercar than a family hauler. Expected output is above 1,000 horsepower, with 0–60 mph acceleration estimated below 3 seconds – numbers that would place it among the fastest SUVs ever made.

Built for the Future: The E-Building

Production will take place at Ferrari’s new E-Building in Maranello, a state-of-the-art facility designed exclusively for hybrid and electric vehicles. It integrates battery assembly, e-axle manufacturing, and software calibration under one roof, giving Ferrari complete control over every stage of EV production. This move reflects a growing trend among legacy manufacturers to bring EV supply chains in-house for performance, efficiency, and data-driven calibration.

But perhaps the most interesting part is not the specs – it’s the philosophy. Ferrari is pursuing emotion. The goal is to preserve the sensory experience that defines the brand: the sound, feedback, and weight balance that make a Ferrari unmistakable.

Engineering Emotion in the Electric Era

In a landscape where most automakers are designing EVs for compliance and efficiency, Ferrari continues to engineer for sensation. The company’s roadmap suggests a clear sequence:

Elettrica (2025) – a four-seat grand tourer proving that sound and emotion can coexist with electric power.
EV SUV (2027) – a higher, broader platform to scale electrification without diluting performance.

Public reaction on Reddit so far has been mixed but insightful. Some view it as a bold evolution of the Ferrari legacy, while others worry the brand risks diluting its character by expanding into utility formats. Yet many agree on one point – if anyone can make an electric SUV feel emotional, it’s Ferrari.

“If anyone can make an EV SUV feel emotional, it’s Ferrari.”
“Excited but cautious – the soul is in the sound. Can they replicate that?”
“As long as it drives like a Ferrari, who cares how it’s powered?”

For the broader industry, this represents a signal that high-performance luxury brands are entering the electric era on their own terms – not by abandoning identity, but by redefining it.
